Does the Church have 5% in “Conversebank”?

09/02/2007

“Advanced Global” LLC, which belongs to Argentine Armenian Eduardo Ernekyan, has bought the controlling share of “Conversebank”. According to banks.am, 48,7% of the share used to belong to “Hudsotrade” LTD (the head is Imad Mtanyus Huri), 15% used to belong to Smbat Nasibyan, and 36,3% – to Modallal Mtanyus. Yesterday “Advanced Global” LLC published a statement writing that one of the Arabic share holders of the bank has granted 5% share in the bank to the Armenian Church (Mayr Ator). The Church does not want to sell its share and is going to keep the share in the bank. Mr. Ernekyan has agreed with it. It is said that the Armenian Catholicos, Garegin the Second, has good relations with Eduardo Ernekyan and even he has been to his house in Argentine for several times. According to our information, the mentioned 5% share does not belong to the Church, but to the Catholicos. We asked the spokesman of the Church about it, but they didn’t inform us anything. It is logical that Ernekyan has agreed to leave the 5% to the Church due to the good relations that the Catholicos has with him. Furthermore, it is more beneficial for the Church to keep its share than to sell it. Last week there was a paper publication reading that Arabic money has been laundered in that bank and transferred to terrorist organizations. The Americans have found it out and argued the Armenian government to punish them, due to which the Armenian government has decided to sell the bank to be clear of guilt. In the Armenian society Mr. Ernekyan is known as a businessman that is involved in “shady” deals, especially since he bought the “Zvartnots” airport.
