Yesterday the RA general public prosecutor’s office organized a meeting, where they discussed their work in 2006. They reported that the crime capacity in 2006 compared to 2005 had grown by 9,9%.
The prosecutors reported that the number of grave crimes, drug and murders had grown. At the same time, the capacity of discovered cases of registered crimes has been cut down, thus this year only 79,2% of the registered crimes have been discovered (in 2005 it was 84,5%). It is very surprising that the statement of the prosecutor’s office press department writes that there were no cases of killing state officials or politicians in 2006 despite the fact that the head of the taxation department was killed by exploding his car in September, 2006. Furthermore, several months before this crime a village community head that represented “Prosperous Armenia” party was killed in his own community (Roland Mkrtchyan, Nalbandyan village community). In fact, the public prosecutors don’t think that the mentioned persons were politicians or state officials. The general public prosecutor of Armenia, Aghvan Hovspeyan tried to explain the reasons of crime growth in Armenia. The general prosecutor believes that the number of crimes has not grown, but investigation officers have discovered more cases and now they work better. During the mentioned meeting the prosecutors spoke about concrete crimes too. They said that there had been many crimes in “Alen-Elen” club located on Abovyan street. Aghvan Hovsepyan said that the most important thing was not only discovering crimes, but finding out the reasons and stopping them. The speech of deputy general prosecutor Gagik Jhangiryan was very surprising since he criticized the court and said that “they are trying to stay stronger on their feet, but they will have to come back under the umbrella of the logical legitimacy”. Definitely, this statement concerns the case of Madaghis and the decision of the Supreme Court to set free two soldiers convicted to death imprisonment for killing a soldier.
