Why notary officer was killed

03/02/2007

On January 24 notary officer of Vanadzor city of Armenia, Sonya Veranyan was killed in her office. After the incident the local police arrested the killer, K. Papyan (born in 1962). After the crime it was spoken that it was a payback for a documentary case proceeded 15 years ago (15 years ago Papyan’s parents did not want to leave their apartment for their son and decided to give it to someone else). Notwithstanding, our sources of information from Vanadzor say that it is not true and Sona Veranyan did not know anything about that case. The mentioned case was preceded by another notary officer, who was replaced two years ago. As for Sona Veranyan, citizens of Vanadzor respected her during her working period in that position since 1991. Furthermore, many citizens were present at Veranyan’s funeral and they were really upset for what had happened. Citizens of Vanadzor don’t like the other two notary officers of that city and they say Sona Veranyan was more responsible for her work and worked harder than the other ones. As for the criminal, he is a chronic alcoholic. After the crime had been done the criminal drank and went to a nearest Church and started shooting there. This means that the crime had been planned long before; however, the citizens of Vanadzor don’t believe that Papyan did not know that Sona Veranyan was not the officer that had proceeded the criminal’s case. According to our information, it is more possible that some people used the fact that Papyan was not in a stabile and balanced psychological condition and made him do that crime. Alas, in Armenia innocent people are often killed in their working rooms. Moreover, it is surprising hat this important case was not brought to the general public prosecutor’s office and is investigated in the local prosecutor’s office of Vanadzor city. We believe that it is time that the general public prosecutor’s office should take such cases under its consideration and investigate them in a duly manner notwithstanding whether those crimes are done purposely or by some other reason.
