Is there balance?

30/01/2007

Leader of the Armenian Democratic Party Stepan Demirchyan announced the following on Wednesday during the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) convention:

“Armenia is doing everything it can to correspond to European standards, the branches of government are well-balanced, citizens now have the right to apply to the Constitutional Court and the Ombudsman institute has been established. More than 50 laws must be approved within the course of two years after the constitutional amendments referendum and a majority of those laws have already been approved.”

He also said that the constitutional amendments are unsatisfactory for democratic development and development of the entire society.

“The referendum, which was a part of the fulfillment of requirements, wasn’t conducted exactly the way that it should have been conducted.”
