Traffic police to move off the streets

21/01/2007

Motorists will not see traffic policemen in streets of Armenia any more. This reformation is done for the purpose of cutting down corruption, thus motorists will not have to stop their cars and negotiate with policemen. They say that the old system will be fully replaced with new technologies such as cameras, chips, recorders. Traffic policemen will not stand in the middle of the roads and stop cars any more, but instead of that they will drive 400 new police cars and 50 motorbikes. They are going to purchase a helicopter too (they are going to pay a half million dollar for it). The government is going to spend 22.9$ on this program. They believe it will fight corruption. The only thing remains to do is to ask the WB give a part of that money and make everyone believe that policemen are almost angels.
