“The December 10 de facto constitutional referendum of Nagorno Karabakh can’t be considered legal,” as stated in the announcement of General Secretary of the European Parliamentary Assembly.
“The results of the referendum won’t be recognized by the international community; thus, it’s insignificant. The long-term Karabakh conflict resolution is only possible with the intervention of the OSCE Minsk Group and the political process. Any resolution for the conflict must be based on the principle of respect towards human rights and if it is going to be left up for the people of Karabakh to decide, then the voting must be free, fair and open for everyone,” said Davis.
According to him, the Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities are the ones mainly responsible for the Karabakh conflict resolution, especially Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliev. Davis recalled that the Karabakh conflict resolution is one of the requirements for Armenia and Azerbaijan to join the European Parliament.
