Will the U.S. recognize the Armenian Genocide?

18/11/2006

The Bush administration, which has ceded the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives to the Democrats, says that from now on they will be more decisive in fighting for any bill having to do with the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. This is what the Turkish “Hiuriet” paper writes as it touched upon the perspective of the approval of a bill recognizing the Armenian Genocide after the victory of the Democrats. According to the Turkish paper, the former speaker of the House of Representatives Republican Dennis Hastert had promised Ankara to do everything he could to create obstacles for the approval of such a bill and he kept his word. It turns out that Democrat Nancy Pelosi will substitute Hastert this January. “It’s quite possible that the new speaker of the House of Representatives will simply go against the White House and in that case, the Armenian Genocide bill will pass,” writes “Hiuriet”.
