The “Azatutyun” radio station informs that the “New York Life” insurance company has started to pay the compensations for more than 2,000 inheritors of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. “New York Life” has agreed to pay the compensation to the inheritors and successors of the Armenians of Western Armenia and Turkey who were insured by that company and died during the Armenian Genocide. “The commission ha approved 2515 applications out of the 5692 and the money is making its way to the inheritors,” said one of the lawyers, Vardges Yeghiayan, who had sued the “New York Life”. Yeghiayan has clarified that the Armenians living outside of Armenia will get their checks by mail and will exchange that at the bank. All 5,692 applicants will receive a letter informing them whether their applications have been approved or not. Thosoe who have applied and have passed will get their money from the bank. According to Yeghiayan, the Armenians living in the U.S. will get their letters sooner, but the process may take 1-2 weeks in Armenia. The largest amount-3,600,000 dollars-has been transferred to Armenia where 1254 people will receive their compensations. The second country is America where 2,700,000 dollars has been transferred for 896 Armenians, the third country is France and the fourth is Canada. In general, Armenians in 26 countries will receive amounts. The entire amount of money makes up 7,954,000 d dollars. The lawyers will transfer less than three million remaining to benevolent organizations. V. Yeghiayan has also announced that the French “Axa” insurance company has already received the amount.
