The RA defense minister, Serge Sargsyan left for Iraq on November 13. In the airport the minister said that the purpose of his visit to Iraq was to meet the defense minister of Iraq, the commanders of foreign armies there and check up on the conditions and situation of the Armenian forces in the place. Answering to a question concerning the health conditions of Armenian lieutenant Georgi Nalbandyan, who was wounded in Iraq, Serge Sargsyan said: “The young officer was taken to Germany and I was told that his life is not in danger. Nalbandyan will recover soon and will return to Armenia to continue his service in the armed forces”. The minister spoke about the issue of prolonging the period of stay of the Armenian army in Iraq and said that the defense ministry had already applied to the parliament to make a decision. “As before, now Armenia can’t just take advantage of the security. Armenia should have its part in the international security issues as well” said Serge Sargsyan.
