As of October 1, 2006 the population of RA is 3.220.800. This information was given by the National Statistics Service of RA. 2 million 62,800 people or 64% of the population live in urban areas. The population of Yerevan is 1 million 104,500 (34,3% of the population). The Lori region has the largest number of people – 282,700 people. Vayots Dzor region has the least number of people – 55,700 people. The second largest town of Armenia, Gyumri, has 147,8 thousand people and Shirak region in general has 281.2 thousand people. The current data were presented based on the last population census conducted in Armenia on October 10-19, 2001. The number of new-born babies and deceased are constantly added or reduced from the mentioned number.
