“The Armenian government must seriously consider the condemnations of the “Freedom House” law defense organization, which considers the democratic processes in Armenia as unsatisfactory.” This is what the Armenian representative of the “Millennium Challenges” corporation Alex Rusin told journalists during a press conference. He also mentioned that the financial aid provided in the framework of the corporation’s project is foreseen for poor countries and the marks of the independent organizations such as “Freedom House” are the ones accepted. Despite the fact that Armenia was ready to participate in the project in 2004, however according to the contract, the given country is required to be ready throughout the entire project. Besides that, it’s foreseen that the rates will go up with the passing of time.
The board of directors of the “Millennium Challenges” corporation, along with president of the board and U.S. Secretary of State Condolezza Rice, gives ratings for the country’s marks each year. The Armenian representative of the corporation also said that for the time being, Armenia can be provided with financial aid for the year 2007, but the political ratings are worrisome. He mentioned that the liberal and fair elections next year in Armenia will change the ratings for the political field. If the elections don’t go well, then that will have a negative influence on the ratings, which will lead to the disqualification of Armenia. Going further in detail about the political ratings, Rusin said that first of all, it has to do with administration, voter participation in the elections, the freedom of the people, as well as the freedom of press.
