As all Armenians know, Arthur Baghdasaryan never misses out on any opportunities to announce that Armenian is backed by a European country after his long-term visits to European countries. We understand the fact that he wants to become president and such accurate or absurd announcements form an important component for his PR strategy. However, this kind of PR may lead to unexpected results and lower the role that PR plays in Armenia.
Recently, after his return from abroad, Arthur Baghdasaryan proudly said that he had become one of the co-chairmen of the “International commission of Caspian and Caucasian countries”. In fact, the other two co-chairmen of this organization based in London are the foreign affairs minister of Slovakia, Dmitri Roupel, and Turkish professor Mustafa Aidi. Now it turns out that the PR course taken may be more harmful for Arthur Baghdasaryan than effective since the mentioned organization is backed by Russian oligarch Boris Berezovski, whom the world is on the lookout for. It’s hard to imagine how the former speaker is going to make diplomatic announcements so that he can have a positive image for the Russians since, as we know, Armenians are very careful when it comes time to express opinions about who Russia sees as a presidential candidate. With this in mind, it is clear that the Russian press has enough reasons to criticize Arthur Baghdasaryan and has done so frequently. For instance, the Russian “Political Level” magazine wrote an article about Arthur Baghdasaryan, where the latter was presented as a “valet” and informed some details about his experience as a political figure.
