ADP following UCR

06/11/2006

When it was said that two famous members of “Rule of Law” party, Gagik Mkheyan and Gagik Avetyan were going to leave the pary, people started saying that they had given up on their colleagues and let them down. Nevertheless, after a while both of them refuted the rumors and said that they were not going to leave the party. Anyway, according to our information, those rumors were accurate and were not conditioned by the fact that the RL was going to leave the coalition and join the opposition, but by the fact that there were some changes in the RL structure and before the upcoming elections it was going to change its policy and collaborate with other parties. Thus, in the summer Gagik Mkheyan and Gagik Avetyan were concerned of the fact that the RL was going to collaborate with the UCR party and thus might give them their places in the proportional lists (they were afraid their places would be given to Haik Babukhanyan or other members of the UCR). The situation became more complicated when they learned about the fact that there was one more possible candidate for those places from the “Justice” alliance (head of the Democratic party, Aram G. Sargsyan). Notwithstanding, according to our information, as Haik Babukhanyan and Aram G. Sargsyan believe that they may be given at least the third and fourth places in the list, it is clear why some of the RL representatives were concerned. At least they understand that this time it will be more difficult to enter the parliament this time and they can’t be sure if they will enter or not.
