An Armenian businessman from the Armenian Diaspora asked the painter whether those paintings were about the Armenian Genocide. The painter replied that the paintings were about all the genocides. Several years later, those pictures were brought to Armenia with the help of the Armenian government and were given to the Genocide museum. In regard to the bill passed by the French Senate penalizing anyone who denies the Armenian Genocide, Charles Aznavour recently said the following: “They should apply that law not only for the Armenian Genocide, but for all the crimes committed against humanity in history, otherwise, it sounds a little strange”. We Armenians truly appreciate Armenian-French relations; however, there still are questions that have remained without answers. Why didn’t they adopt that law in 2001 along with the recognition of the Armenian Genocide? Why did they adopt that law just after Bulgaria and Romania entered the European Union and after Europe opened up to the Black Sea? Why did they adopt that law (by the way, the mentioned law has not been adopted by Jacques Shirac yet) on the threshold of the Armenian parliamentary and presidential elections? (it is worth mentioning that the Armenian community of France is a potential electorate for the elections).
