“Lafarge” is interested in Armenian cement production

In our previous editions, we mentioned that a large French cement producing company, “Lafarge”, is interested in the Armenian cement production and is going to buy the two Armenian cement producing companies: “Ararat” cement-producing company belonging to Gagik Tsarukyan and “Mika cement” owned by Mikhail Baghdasarov. According to our information, “Lafarge” is currently negotiating with the Armenian businessmen on purchasing the factories.

The director of “Multi Concern”, Sedrak Arustamyan confirmed that information and says that the representatives of “Lafarge” have suggested that they sell their cement producing companies. “However, we haven’t discussed that issue since we don’t want to sell the factories”, said Mr. Rustamyan and added that they were not going to sell their factory.

The president of “Mika Limited” company, Mikhail Baghdasarov told us that he couldn’t tell us anything about that since he said that it was confidential. He said that the “Lafarge” wanted to make investments not only in Armenia, but also in Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan and generally in CIS countries. Mr. Baghdasarov said that the “Mika Cement” company had many potential buyers and they were negotiating with all of them. “We haven’t promised anything and will inform about the results of the negotiations as soon as we reach an agreement”, said Mikhail Baghdasarov.

According to our information, the representatives of the “Lafarge” have said that if both of these two companies did not agree to sell the factories, they would not have any commercial interests. “Lafarge” was founded in 1833 and the commodity circulation of this company covered 16 billion Euros last year. “Lafarge” sells most of its produced cement mainly in Western Europe.
