This is just how the customs services consider the issue of the “Royal Armenia” coffee company. The customs department has confiscated 100 tons of green coffee imported by the mentioned company and doesn’t let them import that product in Armenia. The lawyer of “Royal Armenia” company, Gevorg Minasyan says that this was ordered by the police investigation officer who was preceding the criminal case of the heads of their company, Gagik Hakobyan and Aram Ghazaryan. Nevertheless, two days ago the mentioned company received a letter from the customs department of Ararat region, stating that they were going to sue the company for not registering their products in the customs department on time. Things like this only happen in Armenia and, as G. Minasyan says, it is “absurd”. However, the lawyer said that they were not going to give up and were going to apply to the economic court of Armenia despite the fact that court trials in Armenia are all an act. The “Royal Armenia” company hasn’t won any case in this court; on the contrary, the customs department has. The reason was the fact that the customs body asked for more money from them for importing the same coffee than the other companies, which made their company less compatible. According G. Minasyan, 48 employees will lose their jobs at “Royal Armenia” company soon. This is not a significant figure for an economy that is growing with double digits and has many new working places. Besides that, over 100 customs officers have lost their jobs too, although that company is not in competition with any other institutions.
