With the purpose of remodeling the 802 bus stops in Yerevan, it was expected to install 80 new bus stops and signs in the first stage, especially in the heart of the city near the administrative buildings. “Today there are nearly 75 bus stops and signs. We will install the rest in a couple of days,” said Avanesyan and added that the company that won the contest was in charge of the job. Avanesyan said that the municipality was going to build 216 bus stops and put up 722 signs. The municipality has purchased and will receive 77 “Bogdan” buses from Ukraine in order to ameliorate transportation on the streets. According to Mr. Avanesyan, it is expected to import another 150 buses and 20 trolleybuses. As for public transportation prices, he said that the municipality administration hadn’t discussed that, thus they won’t change anytime soon. So, the price for traveling by the “Bogdan” bus will be 100 AMD, 50 AMD for the “Reno” and “Fiat” buses, and 70 AMD for the “Paz” buses. At the present, the municipality has 176 buses and there will be nearly 560-600 buses in the course of the next three years. Besides that, from now on, each year the municipality will get 20 trolleybuses from Russia worth 160,000-170,000 dollars. The deputy mayor said that the government had provided 276 million AMD for the electric transportation sector and that this is the first time in ten years that the government is providing that much.

“There are no resources for improving the conditions of the metro. The subsidy is small-nearly 870 million AMD of which 200 million AMD is provided for police regulation, water circulation and salaries,” said Avanesyan. With the decision of the Armenian government, the “Lusanshan” organization of the Police of Armenia has been handed over to the municipality and completion of work is underway. “Lusanshan” is going to follow up on securing traffic with signs and lighting and will solve other problems as well. The organization has the right to use the amount of technical resources in order to secure traffic on the streets. According to the mayor, the registration of the mobile stations is over. In the course of three months, the Traffic Police and Taxation Services of the Transportation department of the government have revealed 120-123 white license plate illegal microbuses. “There have been 4500 cases when the car has parked in an illegal spot and the driver has paid the 3,000-7,000 AMD fee,” said A. Avanesyan.
