Discovered revolution

Last week, there were arrests in all parts of Georgia. Over 30 leaders and members of different political parties were arrested in different parts of Georgia. The main reason for arrest was the fact that they had all worked with head of the state security governmental department Igor Georgiadze, who is wanted for an organized attempt to kill president Sahakashvili (Igor Georgiadze has been wanted for the past ten years). According to the press services of the Georgian police, they are all accused of state treason and organizing sabotage and a revolution. They may be forced into life imprisonment if the court considers them guilty. The most important persons among those that were jailed are Temur Jorjoliani (he has fallen in such situations before too for organizing the same thing during the term of the former president Shevardnadze), representative of “Justice” party Revaz Bulia (the foundation of this party was supported by Georgiadze from abroad) and the head of “Anti Sores” non-governmental movement, Maya Mikoleashvili. Besides that, Irina Sarishvili, who used to be a famous politician before, is in danger too because she heads the foundation of Igor Georgiadze. The Georgian police checked up the offices of the mentioned persons and found some weapons in one of them, and in a territory that belonged to a relative of Georgiadze, Maya Topuria, they found $30.000. It was spoken that the confiscated weapons and money were the main facts that were to prove their intention to organize a revolution. Later they showed a recording, in which a person standing with his back to the camera was talking to a woman and saying that Topuria had organized a meeting in the central office of “Justice” party on September 4, where the relative of Georgeadze presented a program and a plan to start a revolution. According to the mentioned sources of information, who didn’t want to be discovered, Georgiadze was going to send money to Georgia in August for the purpose of buying weapons and forming several groups consisting of 100 people to organize diversions and sabotage to stand against the government. They were going to organize such sabotage during a rally near the building of the parliament: they were going to shoot for several times during the rally, which would create confusion among people and would serve as a basis for organizing rallies for the purpose of demanding resignation.

It used to seem absurd to say that those groups would reach success since the Georgian police were prepared very well too. Furthermore, people became more suspicious after the speech of Irina Sarishvili, who said that she was very surprised to know that she had not been arrested yet. She announced that the May 4 meeting was a trick, and if some people really gathered at the “Justice” office that day, Temur Jorjoliani could not be among them because he was at a Georgian clinic and was receiving medical treatment to cure his heart: they have all the relevant documents showing that the latter was really getting a medical treatment at a hospital.

Nevertheless, Jorjoliani is still behind bars, but Sarishvili is free. As for the other ones, they are being set free one by one. It is not clear yet whether they are being set free due to paying money or there just aren’t facts that could be used against them. When it seemed that the attempt of revolution was failed Maya Nikolaeshvili announced information that changed everything. She was set free for some time due to the fact that she had paid money and agreed to collaborate with the police, and later she said that the mentioned meeting had really been organized and all the information the police had was true, and added that one of the organizers of that movement was Irina Sarishvili. “It is not true”, said Sarashvili, “everyone knows how such behavior and what Maya Nikoleashvili did is called, I’d call it human weakness”.

Igor Georgiadze didn’t keep silence in Moscow. He has numerously said that he was going to organize a revolution “with sticks”, meaning that the current authorities should be punished with “sticks”. As for the mentioned developments he said, “The authorities are not able to take care of the people and they want to gain their attention by playing games”.

It seems that the authorities are satisfied with all that’s going on. It seems that the minister of police, Vano Merabashvili, has managed to overcome the danger of being replaced. He was afraid of being replaced because he was partly to blame for the murder of a young banker in Georgia since his wife had a part in it too. The society was demanding his resignation. As for the President Georgia, he got more chances to show that Moscow is implementing an anti-Georgian policy. Now his chances may be developed in the international arena for the purpose of pressuring Russia, and in parallel to that, it may be used inside Georgia to show that the Russian policy for Georgia has many negative signs for solving certain political issues inside Georgia. The Georgian defense minister, Irakli Okruashvili, is also one of those people that advocate the method of applying power in the conflicting territories for the purpose of solving the problem may benefit and strengthen his positions in the society too. As far as there are Russians being enemies in the conflicting zones, it is impossible to reach a peaceful solution for the conflict.

As for the attempt to start a revolution, the authorities may show the discovered facts to the society “in portions”. However, monitors say that some other things may be added to those “portions” as well.
