The new piano: a good occasion for a concert

14/09/2006

In light of the events scheduled for the 15th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Armenia, a classical music concert will take place on September 19, during which the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and pianist Arthur Papazyan will perform the works of Aram Khachatryan and Tchaikovsky. The concert is not only luring with the classical music to be played. Guests will get a chance to see the newly purchased piano. Arthur Papazyan had personally traveled to Hamburg to purchase the best piano-the Hamburg Steinway.

“It took a long time for me to decide. I even complained when they tried to sell me a cheap piano just because Armenia is a third-world country.” According to experts, the purchase of the piano is not as big of an event as it is a symbol.

“We already had a good piano, which we were using for the past 30-40 years. With the purchase of a new piano, we proved that Armenians pay attention to improving music. Armenia can’t amaze the world by buying a new piano, for example, Russia purchased 17 Hamburg Steinways in a year. A good musical instrument is like a good toothbrush. If you want to clean your teeth well, you need a good toothbrush and if you want to put on a good classical music concert, you need a good instrument. That piano has become a symbol of the stabilization of the state. I bought it with state funding and didn’t wait until benefactors and sponsors made suggestions. The new piano can even be the symbol of the 15 years of Armenia’s independence-why not? We’ll celebrate the 15th anniversary with the piano and then move on to improving the life in the villages and have that be the symbol for the 16th anniversary,” says A. Papazyan. His desire is to see people celebrate the 15th anniversary in all corners of Armenia.
