The Georgian government is going to sign a contract with Turkey in September, according to which the countries will create a privileged trade regime. This was announced by he Georgian economic development minister, Irakli Chogovadze. “In June, Georgia arranged with Turkey to create a privileged trade regime. We will pay more attention to exporting wine from Georgia to Turkey”, said the minister. The countries have agreed that Georgia will have privileged rights to export 750.000 liters of wine to Turkey, which may give an opportunity for Georgian wine producers to export their wine products to neighboring markets. Besides wine, Georgia may export agricultural and reproduction materials as well. According to the Georgian statistical department, the trade capacity between Georgia and Turkey covered $243,8 million in the beginning of 2006.
