According to Russian “Comnews” agency, the Russian “Sistema” company (MTS) and an international consortium formed by VTEL Holdings and Knightsbridge Associates will buy and share 90% of the stocks of “ArmenTel”. According to the same source, the one behind this consortium is a well-known Armenian businessman. Some sources in Armenia claim that the heads of the consortium are MP Khachatur Sukiasyan and former prime minister of Armenia Armen Sargsyan (Armenian-Indian consortium). If this information is accurate, we may assume that the rumors claiming that Armen Sargsyan is planning to join the Armenian National Movement party, campaign during the 2007 Armenian parliamentary and 2008 presidential elections are true. Giving 90% of the stocks of “ArmenTel” to Armen Sargsyan and Khachatur Sukiasyan before the upcoming elections means to provide them with enough resources to achieve their goals in Armenia’s politics.
