“I wanted to take the metro in Moscow alone, just like they do in other countries. I had never gone alone so I thought, ‘I might as well do it tonight’. My colleagues advised me not to, saying that it’s “dangerous”,” said UN special speaker for racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia Dudu Dien from Senegal. He had paid a visit to Moscow in order to conduct research and see just how racist and xenophobic Russians are.
Dudu Dien will conduct research in Russia for a couple of weeks and in the end, UN specialists will take a look at his report and then that will be sent to the UN Human Rights Council.
“I’m also going to send a copy of my report to the Russian authorities so that they can try to learn from their mistakes,” said Dudu Dien.
Although Russia has a strong influence in the region and a “reputation”, however the “strong” country is no longer able to keep the attacks and murders committed by individuals looking like Slovenians a secret. Thirty-one people died as a result of the 386 racist attacks this year alone. This is a rather high number for the “dark-skinned and black-haired” people living in Russia.
“Don’t blame it on us”
Today, Russian, Western, Armenian and Azerbaijani presses are criticizing “Russian fascism”-they are trying to throw the blame on this or that person and give “appropriate” explanations. When finding the reasons in the context, we start to worry even though there may be some logical explanations. However, they are simply considered as “versions” due to lack of evidence. One of those versions is the fact that everything done against Armenians in Russia is an “order”; the orders are given by the Azerbaijani and Russians are the ones doing it, or vice versa. One of the Azerbaijani web sites called on Armenians to “be careful and not throw the blame for the murders of Armenians on the Azerbaijani because Azerbaijani are also murdered in that “strong” country” and that “the Russians are playing a game with two sides”. There is a logical explanation for Azerbaijan’s “call”. Azerbaijan is worried over the recent article printed in “Regnum” concerning a round-table discussion in Yerevan, during which “close friend of Vladimir Putin and adviser to the Foreign Affairs Minister of Russia from 1999-2001 Vseyevlod Maryan” had said the following about the murders of Armenians in Russia.
“Each year, Azerbaijani groups give 50,000,000 dollars to Russia in order to murder Armenians,” said Maryan and emphasized the fact that the press doesn’t go further in detail about the murders and that “a minimum of 3,000 Armenians have been murdered in Russia in the past decade”, according to the Azerbaijani newspaper. The Azerbaijani “Echo” newspaper especially didn’t like Maryan’s last statement.
“Each rich or poor person can become a victim of Russia’s nationalistic policy. This doesn’t refer to Caucasians, but is strictly aimed towards Armenians. While Armenians are “earning a living in Russia”, Azerbaijani are establishing contacts with the Russian authorities,” said Maryan according to the Azerbaijani newspaper. Azerbaijan angrily responded to Maryan’s statements:
“Let’s remind the Maryans out there of the people of Azerbaijan, Tajik, Vietnam and Africa murdered in Russia by the “skinheads”. The murder of Armenians in Moscow has not only made the situation worse in Yerevan, but also in Moscow. Russian political figures probably fear that with these murders, they will lose their one and only supporter in the region-Armenia. Moscow understands that it has to speak out. That’s why the Russians are “throwing their blame on Azerbaijan” and making us the ones responsible,” states the newspaper.
“Orange Revolution” with the help of skinheads
“It’s an insult,” write the Azerbaijani and remind us Armenians and Russians of how many Azerbaijani children have been killed in Russia and the criminal cases that have been forgotten about. The Azerbaijani also remember how the Russians beat 5 Tajik students in the Vikheno region of Russia. They especially remind us Armenians of a Russian girl by the name of Alexandra Ivanikova, who was accused of murdering an Armenian man named Sergey Baghdasaryan and was never brought to justice. By bringing up these examples, Azerbaijan is not only blaming the skinheads, but also the Russian authorities, who are “completing a special mission”.
“The Russian authorities and the skinheads are actually working together. European analysts have come to the conclusion that by idolizing the skinheads, the Russian authorities hope that they will be able to use the “shavedheads” for the “Orange Revolution”” as stated in the Azerbaijani newspaper. The Azerbaijani press sadly remembers the “Posnerian” “Vremena” program, where “the “skin” who has drunk too much” talks about how to take away Putin’s promised subsidies to Caucasian women “in order to become a member of the national elite and intellectual class” and giving those subsidies to Slovenian women.
“This reminds us of the days when Hitler ruled Germany,” as stated in the newspaper.
There is a simple explanation for all that the Azerbaijani presses are going through. Enemy countries Armenia and Azerbaijan have enough problems as it is and the “50 million dollar” accusations will serve as a means for more conflicts to arise. This, however, benefits the “third” side, which will once again have the opportunity to “make the two shake hands”. I am not going to predict anything since I consider the Azerbaijani publication as one of the “possible versions”-nothing more, nothing less. As for the events against foreigners in Russia, we suddenly get a picture of 19th century America, when blacks were killed just because they were blacks. The only thing we can do is hope to see the Abraham Lincolns and Martin Luther Kings out there soon.
P.S. There are some newly opened restaurants in Moscow where Caucasians are not allowed to enter. The restaurant on Taganskaya square called “Ctoy, Ca” (Stop, Ca), is the abbreviation for “Ctoi, Cavcazets!” (Stop, Caucasians!). An officer standing at the entrance prohibits Caucasians to enter the restaurant.
