The authority orientated press, even though a little late, published
and showed corresponding pictures of how President of Armenia Robert
Kocharyan and Minister of Defense Serj Sargsyan were going around
Nagorno Karabagh in military costumes. The press had probably forgotten
the fact that Robert Kocharyan and Serj Sargsyan were not the president
and defense minister of Karabagh, but rather Armenia’s and that they
had no right to visit another republic and check up on their readiness.
According to deputy of the “Artarutyun” (Justice) union Aram G.
Sargsyan, the visit made by Armenian authorities is a big “flaw” for
Armenia. “If the President of Armenia and the Defense Minister go to
Nagorno Karabagh to regulate the military bases, that is already looked
at as nonsense from a political point of view because we still have not
recognized that republic and we are checking up on their military work
without even recognizing them as a state. This is a plus for
Azerbaijan. They can say that we are the ones who are agressive because
we are sticking our noses in other republics’ problems,” said Aram G.
Sargsyan. Aram G. Sargsyan is certain that Robert Kocharyan and Serj
Sargsyan had actually gone to the NKR not to do some checking up on the
military bases, but rather to “solve some problems, without being
assured that all of that could have remained a secret in Armenia.”
