“There are currently over 200 Armenian women involved in trafficking,” said ambassador and director of the office monitoring and fighting against trafficking John. L. Miller during the teleconference held at the U.S. Embassy on June 6. Armenia is in the second group of the “special superintendence list” based on the U.S. State Department’s trafficking report. According to Miller, Armenia is progressing in the fight against trafficking (trade of humans), however the government still has much to do.
“Armenian society is of the opinion that the legal system in Armenia is corrupt and that has a negative influence on the fight against trafficking,” said J. Miller, who is also the elder adviser to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleza Rice on trafficking issues.
