The “New Times” party organized a press conference with the purpose of informing members about a provocative act against their party in the near future.
Journalists hoped to hear the names of the agents, which according to A. Karapetyan had been sent to their party by the authorities. But the subject of this press conference was the former head of the NT Malatya-Sebastya district headquarter, Arsen Amirkhanyan and his announcements.
Last year, he made an announcement saying that over 100 members had left their party. According to the party deputy leader Alexan Minasyan, the provocation consists in the fact that this announcement was published promptly because it complied with their interests, while they didn’t give them an opportunity to use the services of the paid broadcast of TV companies to make their point clear. A. Minasyan said that 25 days ago before the mentioned announcement A. Amirkhanyan was fired. The reason is the fact that A. Amirkhanyan has some problems with the local police connected with a case of buying an apartment and cheating. Currently the police are instituting legal proceedings on a case against A. Amirkhanyan and two other people on the basis of an application made by a person named S. Galstyan on April 4, 2006. We wonder why the NT board made a decision to fire their member on the basis of the information given to them by the police. “We want to keep our team in tact. When we talked to some people we found out that they had cheated some citizens”. According to A. Minasyan, they don’t want to have “cheaters” in their team. They are waiting for the police to finish the investigation and make a final statement on this case. In spite of this A. Amirkhanyan took the first step, which made them take a step too. As for the agents, they didn’t mention any names of agents this time, besides one person. “One of the agents has discovered himself already”, said A. Minasyan hinting on Amirkhanyan.
As for the NT program, they are going to organize a rally in the future dedicated to the problems of the Armenians living in Javakhk. It will take place on May 30.
