According to our sources, the possible candidates for the National Academy of Sciences presidential elections are Radik Martirosyan, Robert Atoyan, Yuri Shukuryan, Lenser Aghalovyan, Edward Ghazaryan. According to Ghazaryan, presiding over the academy has turned into a difficult and responsible job due to the fact that the equipment is old, the salaries are low, the workers are overage and there are other problems. The scientists at the academy wish to see someone who deserves to be president and they demand some kind of project from the future president. This is where the opinions of the scientists and academicians didn’t correspond. The academicians are afraid of transparent elections. In order to refrain from this, the 250 scientists have two proposals for the administration. According to head of the mechanical institute Azat Sargsyan, there was a proposal to nominate the candidates on May 17, after which they would present their project for scientific development. The second proposal: the scientists demand that one candidate from the scientific organizations take part in casting votes during the presidential elections. Let’s not forget to mention that 69 academicians and 17 reporters have the right to participate in the NAS presidential elections. The NAS academicians discussed the proposals and it was decided that on May 17, the nominees would be announced and they would present their projects on the same day. Also, the scientists will have the opportunity to direct their questions to the nominees. It’s obvious that the second proposal is not beneficial for the nominees. Edward Ghazaryan says that they have applied to the government concerning the second proposal. The government will appeal to the National Assembly, where the issue will be raised.
