The idea of organizing such a conference has been discussed with the head of the Russian Armenians’ Union, Ara Abrahamyan, and the conference will be held by Ara Abrahamyan and the national center of political dialogues. This was announced yesterday by head of the Democratic Party, MP Aram Sargsyan, who is also head of the mentioned NGO board of directors. The mentioned NGO will invite specialists and participants from Georgia, Russia, Karabakh, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan, but the Azeri participants will not attend the conference and say that if they come, they will have problems in their country later on. It is worth mentioning that they haven’t invited anyone from the U.S.A. According to Mr. Sargsyan the reason is the lack of financial resources because all expenses are to be taken care of the inviting party. Besides that, Mr. Sargsyan said that they had informed the U.S. Embassy about this and if they want they can take part in the mentioned conference. There is one more interesting fact: they haven’t invited anyone from Southern Osya and Abkhazia. They have invited participants from Karabakh, and Mr. Sargsyan says that the foreign affairs minister of Karabakh may take part in the conference himself. In regard to not inviting representatives from Osya and Abkhazia Mr. Sargsyan says that the reason is the conflicts with Georgia. Mr. Sargsyan says that the Armenian Genocide issue will not be discussed during the conference. The Karabagh conflict will not be discussed, just like it has been discussed till now. Anyway, Mr. Sargsyan also spoke about some political issues, as well as about the recent developments connected with Rule of Law. Mr. Sargsyan said that he was sorry for those people that left the party and added that they had to do this because they were obliged. “If businessmen are afraid of the authorities, it means that they may call them any time they want and tell them what to do or what not to do. These kinds of MPs are not really worth anything. And if they leave this party and join another one, they will not be worth anything either. The reason is the fact that they don’t have their own approach”, said A. Sargsyan. According to him this was all stipulated by Robert Kocharyan. Who is interested in weakening the Rule of Law? “The interested powers are the ones that are going to struggle for places in the parliament, which will be the main basis for the presidential elections later. I understand what the Republican party is doing, the “Developing Armenia” party, and some other newly established parties. These are the reasons why it happened”, thinks the MP. He thinks that there will be more people dropping their memberships. According to him if it goes on like this, the next parliament will be formed like the existing one. On the basis of what Mr. Sargsyan said yesterday, we may assume that the oppositional powers are waiting till the end of this conflicts and only after the government members hurt each other’s reputatoins wil they start taking certain actions. According to Mr. Sargsyan their party is getting ready for the upcoming parliamentary elections, during which they will use new electoral techniques. In fact, Aram Sargsyan, who is a member of the NA Justice faction, spoke only about his party. Does this mean that the Justice does not exist any more? According to Mr. Sargsyan the main ideology for forming the Justice alliance was to recover the Constitutional rights in Armenia, which they failed to do. What’s more, Mr. Sargsyan says that he doesn’t advocate any parties that don’t have good ideologies for them and if they join any parties in the future, these will be parties that have the same ideologies that they do. In regard to the possible relations between NATO and Armenia, A. Sargsyan said, “The closer we get to NATO, the more military problems we will have. If we get closer to NATO, we will have problems with Russia, China and Iran. Now please tell me, can we resist this or may we fall into a bad situation like Georgia?” It is very interesting that Aram Sargsyan thinks that when moving towards the East, Armenia will not have any problems with NATO. He explains his opinion with the fact that it is not obligatory for us to join NATO.
