The only official announcement that the prosecutor’s office has made so far says that Prashant Anchalia jumped from his dormitory room and got different injuries, as a result of which he died. In regard to this case the general prosecutor’s office of Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeitun communities has instituted legal proceedings on the basis of Article 110, Point 1 of the RA Criminal Code. The investigators have found out that Prashant Anchalia lived with citizen of India Prabhat Kumar in the same room in that period. On that day Prabhat Kumar said that Prashant had stolen $120 from him, because the only one who had a key to their room besides him was Prashant Anchalia. Prashant Anchalia told his roommate that he hadn’t done that and they informed this to the manager of the dorm, M. Adamyan, who advised them to apply to police. Later after returning to the room Kumar told Anchalia that if he didn’t give his money back until the evening he would call the police. Later Kumar left the room and went to have a bath. After returning to their room Kumar saw that Anchalia was not in the room. He heard noise from the yard and when he looked down the window he saw that Anchalia was on the ground. Later the watchman of the dorm called police and informed them about the tragic incident. According to the information of the prosecutor’s office, the ambulance reached the place in 14 minutes. Prashant Anchalia was taken to the Mikayelyan medical center at once, but he died on the way to the hospital. The legal proceedings are still in process.

According to the Medical University administration, Indian students have currently quieted down. According to head of the University foreign relations department, E. Sahakyan, the representatives of the Indian Embassy in Armenia are helping them to make the students calm down. As for the Embassy, they don’t give any comments yet. According to E. Sahakyan, two days ago some foreign students of the University met with the rector of the University and discussed issues concerning their education. E. Sahakyan assures that the tragic death of the Indian student was not discussed that day at all, “The issues that were discussed concerned only the self-management of foreign students and electing their students’ union leaders”. According to him the rumors, claiming that the University is going to increase the education payments, are not true. In fact, 1600 students out of 4500 students studying at the Yerevan State Medical University are foreigners. Their tuition per year is $2200. As for the local students, they pay the tuition in local currency, which covers 800.000 dram.
