“Soviet nostalgia”

25/04/2006

Press secretary of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tair Taghizade has expressed his positive opinion on the announcement made by Vartan Oskanyan:

“If Azerbaijan recognizes Karabagh’s right to decide its future status on its own, Armenia will be ready to discuss the issues concerning getting rid of the consequences of war,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

At the same time, however, Taghizade said that Azerbaijan considers Karabagh’s “self-determination” as “the highest authority” in Azerbaijani territory.

In response to this, press secretary of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry of Affairs Hamlet Gasparyan told “ArmenPress” that “they would be happy to see the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs give a positive answer to Oskanyan’s announcement and consider it constructive”.

But that’s not how it is.

“Whenever someone talks about Karabagh’s right to be autonomous, Azerbaijan starts a soviet nostalgia. I am sad to say that the Azerbaijani are lost in illusions instead of opening their eyes to face reality and understanding what is being said,” said H. Gasparyan.
