He’s brave, he’s brave

The former head of the electoral commission of the 03/40 poll in Oshakan village of Aragatsotn Marz Spartak Yeghiazaryan made a confession just a week ago. He confessed that he and the electoral commission had faked the results of the 2003 presidential elections by adding 60 more votes to Robert Kocharyan’s 12% quo. But as soon as the prosecutor’s office called Spartak Yeghiazaryan for an investigation, he denied what he had said. What’s more, he has currently gone undercover. And since vice-president of the “National Unity” party Alexan Karapetyan was the one who presented Spartak Yeghiazaryan during the parliamentary briefings, we tried to find out from him what the problem was.

“Nobody had forced him to come and confess. He was the one who asked to do that. We can’t force him to come and speak during a press conference. We have neither the moral nor the political right. He is neither a member of our party, nor do we have anything against him. We didn’t bring him, he came on his own,” he said.

According to Karapetyan, Yeghiazaryan has to be responsible for what he says and doesn’t say. As to what made Yeghiazaryan refrain from telling the truth to the prosecutors, A. Karapetyan has no idea. It is quite possible that someone scared him.

“He is probably under a lot of pressure for not coming to the prosecutor’s office and not showing up at a press conference,” says A. Karapetyan.
During an interview yesterday, S. Yeghizaryan asked us not to talk about it. Just hearing him speak made you think that he was threatened.

“Nobody can scare me. They can only kill me,” he said and put the telephone down.
