Recently, Azerbaijan mass media are declaring resolving the Karabagh conflict through means of war. Obviously, different people in Karabagh have different opinions on that. That’s why “168 Hours” took a survey and found out what the people think.
Karen Grigoryan, student: When hasn’t Azerbaijan made such announcements? To tell you the truth, it’s nothing new to me. Sometimes we watch Azerbaijani television channels and we hear Azerbaijani even singing songs about seizing Karabagh, not to mention the fact that they claim that they have to seize, let’s say, Shushi, etc.
Arev Avagyan, mother of a dead soldier: I don’t understand what those barbarians want. Do the mothers that lost their sons during the Artsakh war actually talk about war? Have our wounds healed that fast? I think that neither Armenians nor Azerbaijani would want to experience all that again.
Aram Sargsyan, lawyer: I don’t think that either side will start a war; it will simply be absurd because we have learned from history that wars don’t solve anything. Both sides have to sit across a round table and try to come up with other solutions.
Armen Avanesyan, Artsakh war veteran: In my opinion, we have to stop reacting to each announcement that Azerbaijan makes. We won the war that we were obligated to fight in and have declared our independence. Now it’s time to think about developing the state and moving towards prosperity.
Gurgen Barseghyan, pensioner: I am not surprised to see Azerbaijani wishing to resolve the conflict through war because they have always been filled with hatred towards Armenians, even when we were republics of the Soviet Union. I think that we mustn’t forget that the Azerbaijani are making war declarations because we all know that they still hate Armenians. You can see that by watching Azerbaijani television shows. We have to be ready to fight back against anything that comes our way.
Ayda Sargsyan, refugee: I don’t think there is any woman or mother that would want to see war. In 1989, our family was exiled from Baku and we moved to Stepanakert. My son went to fight in the Artsakh war along with the other brave soldiers and sacrificed his life for that land. Currently, we are living here and will stand up to the Azerbaijani and fight back until our dying day. After all, one gains the power and will to defend the Homeland when he feels the fear of losing it. In my opinion, we shouldn’t pay attention to what the Azerbaijani say and continue our lives.
