Some companies are involved in producing furniture in Karabagh and one of them is the “GF” company. “GF” is considered to be one of the companies that has made the most investments in Karabagh’s economy.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Territorial Management and Development of Productive Substructures, the company has made over 130 thousand dollars of investments and has created 18 employment sites.
The Stepanakert furniture factory is another one of the companies. Currently, the factory has 17 workers that receive a 30,000 AMD (60 dollars) monthly salary.
The once well-known factory looks different today after the effects of the war. The appearance of the factory building is fading away. Chief engineer of the company Beglar Ghulyan recalls the factory’s achievements in the past. But he thinks that there can be changes made and that anything is possible. The factory manages to produce some pieces of furniture even with the low number of workers. According to B. Ghulya, the prices for furniture were high between the years of 1992-1999, which had to do with the help of the government. In 2000, the products sold made up 9 million AMD (20,000 dollars), in 2003-12,674,000 AMD (27,000 dollars), and in 2005-19,600,000 AMD (43,000 dollars).
During the post-war period, the company has financed the remodeling of some department and administrative buildings. Currently, the company continues to produce different types of tables, chairs, closets, etc. The furniture factory also competes with other factories. B. Ghulyan says that most of the income is aimed towards redeeming debts. The number of competitors has risen over the past couple of years, but those companies don’t have many workers.
The Stepanakert furniture factory needs financial aid, which will help the company work more efficiently and gain a high reputation.
