Currently, the US co-chairman of the Minsk group, Steven Mann and the deputy to the US secretary of the Department of the State, Daniel Frid are in Armenia on some official meetings. They discussed issues on regional security, as well as energetic security with the RA foreign affairs minister Vardan Oskanyan. Daniel Frid said that when talking about the Southern Caucasus, he refers to the time when “all the existing conflicts will be resolved and the countries will live in peace and will have their own place in this world without any external pressure”. He noted that the interests and potential of Armenia in the field of atomic and other new effective sources of energy will be discussed in detail in Washington. Member of the Russian academy on geopolitical issues and the head of its Armenian branch, Ara Sargsyan explains these meetings and the visit of the Turkish president to Georgia in the following way: “The diplomat wanted to make sure whether Armenia will join them in controlling the energetic resources of Iran or not. And if yes, the US will agree to let them build a bigger gas pipeline and will let them gain more power. Otherwise, the US will punish Armenia”, says A. Sargsyan.
