“Tehleryan did what the Turkish court had decided”

Today, 500 Turkish public and political figures and some Azerbaijani youth organizations and NGOs are going to take part in the “Talyat Pasha March”, which is aimed towards criticizing “Armenian terrorism”. They will also pay tribute to Talyat killed by Soghomon Tehleryan. What kind of demonstration is this?

Member of the Academy of Russian Cosmopolitan issues, director of the Armenian branch and doctor of economy Ara Sargsyan proposed two variants. First, the Masons have decided to declare the former leader of the Otyak (Box) (Talyat was the master of the Otyak since 1907 up until the Young Turks came to power) by condemning the person who killed him.

“It’s quite possible that they do this because I know how they do things. The Turks have warned the Germans and they are all starting the movement,” says A. Sargsyan.

According to the second variant, Turkey is just leading its politics. Sargsyan says that currently, Turkey is doing everything it can to keep the crime committed by the Ottoman Turks back in 1915 a secret. With this politics, Turkey is trying to prove that the Turkey that Kemal Ataturk created was based on democratic principles and is just trying to fit in the European family of countries. It will be very hard for Turkey to integrate into Europe if Europe finds out that modern day Turkey is the result of genocide of 1.5 million Armenians and the massacres of 300 thousand Greeks.

“Turkey’s goal is to take advantage of each error made in Armenia’s politics based on its interests. Although the four pashas and organizers of the Armenian Genocide had been sentenced to life in prison, however they fled the country. It was mere coincidence that Armenians killed three of them. Turkey had recognized Talyat as a criminal, and then a national hero. I want to show that Armenians are not terrorists through this demonstration,” says A. Sargsyan. According to him, Armenia should not protest to this and make the Armenian community of Berlin get up on its feet.

“If we get out there and organize demonstrations, this will mean that we accept what the Turks are doing. The proposal made by “progressive” Urikhanyan is OK for the demonstration organizers. They want to see us at the same level,” says Ara Sargsyan. He suggests responding in the following way:

“If we look at it from another perspective, Tehleryan did what the Turkish court had decided to do, which was to sentence Talyat pasha to life in prison.”

What’s interesting though is that a year ago, the newspaper edition “Marmara”, printed in the Armenian Diaspora, predicted that the Turks would start a demonstration condemning Tehleryan in March 2006.

“If there was a representative with brains from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia in Istanbul, then he would immediately understand that something like that would happen after a year,” says A. Sargsyan.

P.S. Possible global conflicts, reclassification of regional powers, economic and political interest of different countries, as well as Ara Sargsyan’s opinions on what role Armenia plays-all in our next edition.
