Artur joked and said that many are asking him why he didn’t knock-out Shanon Taylor when he was the one that challenged him.
“I had the chance during all 12 rounds and I wanted to knock him out, but Taylor is built and I wasn’t able to.”
Artur Abraham’s next boxing match will be on May 13 in Germany. He didn’t state who is going to be his next rival, but he did say that he is from Holland. There are many boxers with the same weight as Artur and Armenians would like to see Artur win all of them. However, it isn’t that easy to challenge them.
“It all depends on the managers. My manager suggested boxing with Bernard Hopkins and German Taylor, but they refused. Nobody wants to lose the championship cup.”
But Artur says that he is ready to go against any boxer in the ring.
“They’re tough, but we’re tough too. There is no problem,” says Artur.
By “we” Artur means him and his brother Alik, who is also a professional boxer. Artur Abraham says that he will never go against his brother in the boxing ring.
“We have been offered to do that, but we have refused. We don’t even compete against each other during the trainings.”
During the press conference, Abraham also touched upon other issues, such as the fact that he doesn’t live in his Homeland.
“Unfortunately, I am living in another country, but then again, it is that country that allows me to box and get the championship,” he says.
The boxer believes that it is time to open a boxing federation in Armenia but says that he can’t do that at the moment.
“Currently, I am training and getting ready for matches. When I finish my boxing career, I will most definitely think about opening a federation.”
But Artur is planning on remodeling the boxing school named after Vladimir Yengibarov.
How does the world boxing champion feel?
“It’s like I have been waiting for this my whole life and now I am a champion. It’s a great feeling, but then you go home, relax and become the same person that you have always been.”
According to Artur, the most important thing is discipline if you want to achieve great heights. He says that he has become more disciplined while living and training in Germany.
The boxer added that he might compete against even stronger boxers in the near future, but for now he just wants to keep his title and reach higher success.
In the end, Abraham told journalists that his favorite boxer is still Mike Tyson.
“But the Tyson back then, not now,” he said.
Let’s hope that Artur goes on to become an idol for other world champions and will even become the next Tyson.
