Parties will be dissolved

17/03/2006

Whereas before, according to the RA Electoral Code, parties are elected on the majority basis in case of getting over 5% of votes, and alliances – over 7%, now this principle is going to be changed. For separate parties the limit of 5% will stay the same, but as for alliances the ones that consist of two parties will be elected if they get over 7% of votes and those consisting of more than two parties – over 10%. Besides that according to the law on political parties the parties that get less than 1% of votes will be dissolved. “Now it is stricter and in the future this 1% may become 2%. There is a limit set on the number of alliances: in case of getting less than 4% the alliances will be dissolved”, said MP representing the “Rule of Law” Hovhannes Margaryan. By the way, this recommendation was proposed by the opposition.
