Hayrikyan had appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the following: “the measures taken by the ministry for the four Armenians killed in Moscow in late February, not granting Armenian citizenship to Armenians living in Javakhk and Armenia’s foreign politics strategy in regard to the announcement made by president of Karabagh Arkadi Ghukasyan.
Hayrikyan said that according to the French “Harach” newspaper, Russians had killed four Armenians from the city of Gyumri who had gone to Russian in search of jobs. The NSDU leader wanted to know what measures the ministry had taken to solve this issue. According to Hayrikyan, he recently found out that the ministry is “making it difficult for Armenians by nationality to get Armenian citizenship.” The leader of the NSDU asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs to not set so many obstacles and encourage “Armenians by nationality to get citizenship.” Hayrikyan is of the opinion that all Armenians living in Javakhk who want to get Armenian citizenship, should be granted that citizenship based on the new law stated in the Constitution.
As for Karabagh, Hayrikyan states that the Armenian authorities are simply indifferent to the announcement made by president Ghukasyan when he says that he wants Armenia out of the negotiations. He says that Armenia is simply interested in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and not the Karabagh conflict.
“It turns out that not only Azerbaijan, but also Armenia is against Karabagh’s independence,” says the leader of NSDU and adds: “As a leader of the Armenian independence struggle and a national autonomous leader, I feel that it is my duty to call on Armenian authorities to change their attitude towards the Karabagh conflict and stop referring to it as Armenian-Azerbaijani ties.” According to Hayrikyan, Armenia must exclude itself from the negotiations and only guarantee the security of Karabagh.
