Armenian economy rates are OK

– Recently MP Tatul Manaseryan said that IMF is currently in a stage of failures, because there is a problem with returning credits, which undermines the credit programs in Armenia. What do you think about this?

– I don’t think there is such a problem. For Armenia we have a program for economic development and implementation is underway. In two weeks IMF delegates will visit Armenia and will monitor the economic development. We should wait for the results of this monitoring and evaluation.

– What do you think about Armenian economic development in this phase?

– Everything is OK. The economic development and inflation rates are OK, and there is also a decrease in poverty. I don’t think we have any problems regarding this.

– Now one of the main problems is the changes in the USD exchange rates. What do you think about the neutral policy of the CB regarding this?

– I have always thought that the main goal of the CB must be to keep the prices stable in the country, as for the exchange rate, it should be fixed by market factors. So in this case I think it is good of the CB not to control the exchange rate.

– Some people say the reason that the exchange rate changes are vulnerable is the high level of “dollarization” in our country. What do you have to say about the possible changes and what kind of solutions can you come up withs?

– As a matter of fact, the “dollarization” level continues to go down and this is due to the level of trust in the Armenian dram. This is clear according to the information of our last reports too. Anyway I think that we will need a lot of time to solve this problem.
