Recently, the media published NA Speaker, Artur Baghdasaryan’s speech entitled, “Strategies of Strengthening Democracy in Post-totalitarian States”. According to the RA NA Department of Publicity, the speech was made at the International Conference by the Austrian Prime Minister, Wolfgang Sheussel. According to our sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baghdasaryan went to Austria on vacation. However, as advised by NDI, he participated in the International Conference. That’s why the Armenian Embassy in Austria was informed about this only a few hours before Baghdasaryan’s arrival in Austria. It is not yet known who organized the meeting. Baghdasaryan attended a dinner after the conference where he met Zpignef Brezinsky, the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Poland, and the Austrian Chancellor. And our sources even joke that Baghdasaryan, being a member of the government and playing a role of an oppositionist, wanted to show Brezinsky that he is the most democratic political figure in Armenia. But the people preset knew who he really is.
Also, according to the same source, in March of 2006, NA Speaker Baghdasaryan will be invited to Washington D.C. again. The White House considers Baghdasaryan as a possible successor of current RA President Robert Kocharyan. And during his visit Washington is going to try to instate his political influence in Armenia.
