Zurna, Drums and Saxophone represent Armenia

In February Arto Tunj-Boyajyan’s band “Armenian Navy Band” will perfrom in the Pop-music Theater of Moscow. “The music that the Armenian Navy Band plays is very fashionable. It’s called a “mountain stream” in Europe, which choked the American Dixieland”, write the Russian papers. The Armenian Navy is going to perform in Russia for the first time. Furthermore, by acquiring a new German impresario, the band started to actively go to trips and has many plans for trips. They are waited in Madrid, Barcelona, London. The music that the Armenian musicians play is a mixture of different compositions and instruments.

Avante Garde Folk music is originated by the traditional Armenian duduk, zurna, kanon (lyre) and classical jazz instruments – saxophone, trombone, drums. The sounds of bottles and bowls are also heard from time to time. The music folk ballads and jazz compositions usually sound like instrument struggles and cheerful musical tricks. This music is cheerful, exciting and mysterious all at the same time because there is a right portion of humor, professionalism and taste. The Armenian Navy Band and Arto Tunj-Boyajyan are real professionals and are leaders of the Armenian music.
