Resurrection of Minas’s house -museum

08/12/2005

The destructive earthquake of 1988 ruined the house-museum of Minas Avetisyan in Jajur in its entirety. Being sponsored by the “Linsie” fund Minas’s house-museum has been restored. The re-inauguration of the museum will take place on December 7 at 3:00p.m. It will be inaugurated on the same day it has been ruined. There was a time when the house-museum of Minas had attained a status of a holy place. However, over the last 17 years it has gradually been forgotten because of the lack of visitors. The re-inauguration of the house-museum is very important. There will be no holiday events planned on that day because December 7 is not a holiday. But the head of Jajur village is going to sacrifice sheep and lay tables for the visitors. The son of the painter, who’s also the director of the museum, Arman Avetisyan said, “there will be no partying on that day, but the guests will be treated with lamb.” A few of Minas’s paintings will be exhibited in the museum because the protection of the security of them will be a difficult issue. The house-museum is the branch of Armenia’s National Gallery and therefore the safeguarding of the paintings is the task of the National Gallery. According to Arman Avetisyan the number of paintings is enough: “I consider the gossips claiming that only the duplicates of the original paintings of Minas will be in the house-museum as speculative conversations. Only poorly-informed people and scandalous people can disseminate rumors like that”, he added. Minas Avetisyan will have his house back and the memories of the house and his art will also be brought back.
