Demonstration for the sake of the hunger-striker

30/11/2005

Representatives of nearly 14 NGOs organized a demonstration yesterday in front of the Ministry of Justice defending Razmik Sargsyan, who had gone out on a hunger-strike for 103 days. The participants of the demonstration were demanding that the ministry release former armed forces soldier Razmik Sargsyan (who had been accused of one other murder of a soldier) and provide medical aid. The representatives of the Ministry of Justice promised the participants to give them a written reply on Monday and copies of the reply would be sent to both the Armenian branch of the OSCE and the office of the Ombustman. ”I demand that they send my child to the hospital-how long can they keep him in a trance?” asks Razmik Sargsyan’s mother Mrs. Julieta. Mrs. Julieta also demands that the case be examined not at the Military Prosecutor’s office, but rather at the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia. The particpants of the social demonstrtaion are getting ready to visit the isolation ward in Nubarashen where the doctor there had to check the hunger-striker’s health. Director of the ”Military Defense Committee” Gohar Armenakyan, she can not understand why the head of the isolation ward refuses to provide her with Razmik Sargsyan’s medical card. ”At the present, we have no idea what kind of illness Razmik has because after all, he was attacked and beated during preliminary hearings and his kidneys have most probably been damaged.”
