Yesterday marked the first stage of the final round of tennis taking place in Shanghai. Nikolay Davidenko, representing Russia, was competing against Armenian American Andre Agassi. To the surprise of many, Agassi did not play that well and lost after the 1 hour and 15 minute game (6-4, 6-2). Davidenkon won easily due to the fact that Agassi was injured and even said during the press conference after the game that he is going to quit the competitions. “I will be running a high risk by continuing to play here, besides that, my health and future will be put in danger. I am sorry that everything turned out this way,” said Agassi. What’s interesting is that Rafael Nadal, the second racket in the world at the present, refused to participate in the game from the beginning due to an injury. As a result, only three players remained in the “golden” team-Davidenko and Argentinians Gaston Gaudio and Mariano Puerta.
