Yesterday the head of the Armenian representative office of “Transparency International” organization Amalya Kostanyan announced, that there was no political will to stop corruption in Armenia. According to Kostanyan, the steps and activities of the government bear only declarative character and will not have any positive results untill they don’t make legal proceedings against at least one corrupted official or businessman. “It doesn’t matter how many similar cases there are: the society will be satisfied only with the judgement of a couple of officials”, -said Mrs. Kostanyan. She also noted that the Armenian government preferred only one way of realizing this goal, i.e. reforms of legislation. According to her this was necessary but not satisfactory, because besides legislation amendments they also had to force the law and apply it. According to Mrs. Kostanyan the reforms were made in way not to harm the interests of the elite group of citizens. “The RA government system is fully corrupted and in these kinds of conditions it is impossible to expect anything from the bodies that should be fighting against corruption, especially in this case when these bodies are not competent enough and they bear only advisory character”, -said A. Kostanyan.
