Electoral bribery as a social-economic index

“There is no simple means, prescription to avoid vote buying. It also depends on the social-economic situation of different countries. But as we already mentioned in the preliminary statement of our observation it is important how the authorized bodies tackle the process,” told our reporter the head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission to Armenia Radmila Shekirinskaya. She also added, “In fact, it is important that the police investigates the attempts of vote buying and we will also follow up with that. One of the questions that we already raised is that the Election Code should have been more flexible to exclude the ones, who report vote buying from charges. During the campaign the RA Prosecutor-General stated that that bribe takers won’t be charged but we think that it would be much better if the Code had a provision about that.”
