In light of the National Assembly’s 15 anniversary celebration, foreign parliament representatives have paid visits to Armenia in order to clarify some things regarding the constitutional amendments. They have also met with opposition representatives. The representative of Belgium especially focused on Artur Baghdasaryan’s statement that the proposed constitution is better than the existing one. One representative of the opposition contradicted that and said: “Artur Baghdasaryan is just saying what Robert Kocharyan tells him to say.” This means that he has noticed that the new constitution is worse than the one we have now. Foreigners were surprised to hear about some details, including the articles about the president being untouchable and dual citizenship. “In Armenia, it’s not that the constitutional laws are not applied, but rather, the authors of the new version just don’t want to obey those laws,” said the oppositionist and added that Robert Kocharyan does not have the right to be president of the Republic of Armenia since he does not have a 10 year Armenian citizenship.
According to our sources, representatives of Belgium and Latvia have also met with members of the Armenian National Movement.
