Yesterday the Free Democrats party held a general meeting in the meetings hall of the government. The main intrigue in terms of the recent political development was the possible alliance between the Free Democrats and Heritage parties. Even though during the general meeting no formal decision was made about this cooperation the speeches of the presidents of Free Democrats and Heritage parties contained messages, which make it clear that during these days a final decision will be made and the parties will come up with a joint announcement about cooperation. “The Free Democrats party will participate in the upcoming elections as a competitive political power with free and liberal values. Meantime, as we have announced before. We are also ready to cooperate with other political powers that share these values as well. For this purpose we want to form a fair union, e.g. an alliance. We believe that there is a strong public demand for such alliance. This will be an alliance that will be a supporter of law, free and democratic… Accordingly, the unity of our two powers will result in long-term and real but not artificial changes in the country. Changes are inevitable,” announced Khachatur Kokobelyan, the president of Free Democrats party. The president of Heritage party Raffi Hovhannisyan said that their cooperation with the Free Democrats had started long ago and added, “I believe we will overcome the issues in strategies and will have an alternative plan. On May 6-7 a new sunrise will come to us. This will be a civic and political solution. We must keep the future and interests of our generations higher than everything. We will bring it together and in favor of Armenia we will move mountains together.” During the general meeting the Free Democrats party made a decision to instruct the party’s board to make a decision concerning the format of participation in the upcoming elections. Obviously this decision will be made during these days. The general meeting of the heritage party was planned to be held one day later, and obviously in a couple of days after this meeting the parties will announce about their final decision on the format of participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
