Say “no” to the majoritarian system of elections

“The majoritarian system will turn into a fight as all the negative things that happen to elections are connected with the majoritarian system. No election is worth the enmity of two Armenians that usually happens during majoritarian elections. Today we are not ready for majoritarian civilized type of elections,” said MP Lyova Khachatrayn during hearings dedicated to 100% proportional system of elections. Both the parliamentary and non-parliamentary opposition powers are for this type of elections. Almost all representatives of opposition parties were present at the discussion. “The authorities have many arguments against 100% proportional system of elections but they refer to several of these arguments very often. They say it will break the connection of voters. But by doing that we are depriving the role of the parliament as a balancing institution otherwise it becomes a state body that carries out regular activity,” announced Garnik Gevorgyan, member of the board of Free Democrats party.
