Tolerance in cash

11/02/2012

While the coalition powers assure the society that everything is fine with their cooperation after every meeting, yesterday there was an incident in the parliament, which shows that the coalition is on the edge of falling. The government’s bill on adoption of procedures for “cash transactions” was failed in the parliament because of the missed vote on part of the Prosperous Armenia party.

The problem is not in the bill, but in the fact that this is a precedent that even minor bills can fail to be passed by the coalition. The representatives of the PA and RPA parties were confused as they were assuring the media that it was not a result of inner conflict within the coalition but later had to bring explanations. “Those who are speaking of honesty, dignity and tax collection and will praise their policy in the society had to show that their words and actions were similar… The PA’s action several months before the election is a bad PR trick as a coalition power is trying to fail the government’s bill to imitate an image of an opposition power. However it is clear that the PA will fail to blow the minds of voters because they cannot have the image of an opposition power after being in the government for so many years,” said NA speaker Samvel Nikoyan following the incident. “This was a violation of the coalition commitments. I think the law had been normally discussed and there was no conflict of interests. It was one of the laws in the framework of the anti-corruption policy and I think they had made a political decision,” said the RPA faction head Galust Sahakyan. “Dear colleagues, the PA did not vote for this bill not because it was against the bill, just fact is that it is soon yet for this society to adopt such law,” said NA vice-speaker Balasanyan. In a word, every time tension grows up between the parties the representatives of these two parties criticize and hardy tolerate each other till their leaders meet at the president’s office and get instructions to calm down for a while. This cannot last too long and hardly will they be able to tolerate each other till the elections.
