Ruling parties throw mud at each other

04/02/2012

Yesterday there was a meeting in participation of the leaders of the ruling coalition in the president’s office and the only information available about it is the announcement of the RPA’s spokesman, NA vice spear Edward Sharmazanov, who said that the meeting of coalition leaders is a normal thing in Armenia’s political life and the closer the election day is, the more meetings there will be. Yesterday there were rumors that during the mentioned meeting the participants were going to clarify the issue if the PA would endorse Serzh Sargsyan’s candidacy during the elections 2013 by signing a memorandum on that. Otherwise, according to the same source of information, the PA would be forced to go out f the coalition and participate in the elections as a separate political power. Due to the fact that there is lack of information on the details of the meeting we may assume that the conflict between the mentioned powers was not resolved during the mentioned meeting and still their relations are tense. According tour information the reason for this conflict of interests is the fact that the PA wants 11 majoritarian seats but the RPA is ready to give only 8 as it happened ruing the parliamentary elections in 2007. The PA wants 11 majoritarian seats because following the last elections three MPs (Samvel Balasanyan, Rostom Gasparyan and Martun Grigoryan) joined the PA faction. This is the issue that the RPA and PA are not able to agree about and the current situation shows that hardly they may come to a final agreement. During the entire day MPs of these two parties were criticizing each other. The problem is that during an interview given to our newspaper the spokesman of the RPA, Edward Sharmazanov said that h was suspicious about the PA’s slogan that their word is work as they changed their mind and wanted fully majoritarian system of elections. In answer to this statement Naira Zohrabyan said that Sharmazanov should refrain from making such statements. Following these announcements there were announcements from both parties at different levels and this process still continues.
